Email notification is an integral part of Dbvisit Standby. If for any re= ason Dbvisit Standby has failed to transfer or apply an archive after the s= et threshold has been reached, an email alert will be sent. If any other er= ror occurs, an email will also be sent.
By default, in Dbvisit Standby version 10 e-mail notifications are disab= led, with the following two parameters set to N (no) in the DDC file:
Please refer to the DDC reference page for details on general email para= meters and advance settings
SEND_MAIL_FLAG=3DN SEND_MAIL_FLAG_DR=3DN
IMPORTANT: If you are not using SSL/TLS make sure= that "MAILCFG_PROTOCOL" is not set in the DDC file and if it is set it sho= uld not have a value:
IMPORTANT
Once you enable notification by setting SEND_MAIL_FLAG or SEND= _MAIL_FLAG_DR you have to ensure that mail settings will work. By default D= bvisit will terminate with an error if for example SMTP server is not reach= able or password expires.
To override this behaviour (to ignore mail settings related errors) you = need to specify parameter in DDC file:
IGNORE_MAIL_ERROR =3D Y
MAILCFG_PROTOCOL =3D
From Dbvisit Standby version 7.0.10 SSL/TLS Email (SMTP) server connecti= vity is supported.
It is required that the MAILCFG_PROTOCOL parameter is set in the Dbvisit= Standby Configuration (DDC) file with possible values SSL= or TLS.
Example, if Gmail is used the following values must be manually specifie= d in the primary server DDC file:
MAILCFG_SMTP_SERVER =3D smtp.gmail.com MAILCFG_AUTH_USER =3D gmail username (this will also become the "from" ad= dress ) _MAILCFG_AUTH_PASSWD =3D gmail password MAILCFG_PORT =3D 465 MAILCFG_PROTOCOL =3D SSL
MAILCFG_SMTP_SERVER =3D smtp.gmail.com MAILCFG_AUTH_USER =3D gmail username (this will also become the "from" ad= dress ) _MAILCFG_AUTH_PASSWD =3D gmail password MAILCFG_PORT =3D 587 MAILCFG_PROTOCOL =3D TLS
A heartbeat e-mail will be sent each new day.
The variable SEND_HEARTBEAT_TIME24 in the Dbvisit Database Conf= iguration (DDC) file specifies what time the email will be sent. The time i= s in 24-hour format and should be between 0000 and 2359 hours. If this vari= able is not specified then an email will be sent at the beginning of each d= ay.
Example:
SEND_HEARTBEAT_TIME24 =3D 0700
Multiple times can be specified separated by a semicolon. To send a hear= tbeat message three times a day (7 am, 1 pm and 6 pm) specify:
SEND_HEARTBEAT_TIME24 =3D 0700:1300:1800
Dbvisit will not necessarily send an email at the exact time specified. Dbv=
isit will only send the heartbeat email when it is executed.
Example: If SEND_HEARTBEAT_TIME24=3D1400, but Dbvisit is not ex= ecuted until 14:20, then the heartbeat email will be sent at 1= 4:20.
It is possible to turn the heartbeat feature off for the primary server = by setting SEND_HEARTBEAT=3DN in the Dbvisit Database Configuratio= n (DDC) file.
To turn the heartbeat feature off for the standby server, set SEND_H= EARTBEAT_DR=3DN.
To test the scheduler heartbeat message and to send a test email, the fo= llowing command can be used: "dbvctl -d <DDC> -f send_heartbeat= " In version 10 by default all the emails notifications come in default HT= ML format, unlike the previous versions. It can however be changed to TEXT = format using these parameters in the DDC :
MAILCFG_FORMAT =3D
MAILCFG_FORMAT_DR =
=3D
Example output of heartbeat message:

As part of the Daily scheduler heartbeat message, it is possible to incl= ude the Dbvisit Standby log gap report.
The Dbvisit Standby log gap reports on the:
To include the Dbvisit Standby archive and transfer log gap report in th= e daily heartbeat message set:
SEND_LOG_GAP_WITH_HEARTBEAT=3DY
IMPORTANT
Dbvisit Standby will start the standby database if the standby database = is not running and AUTO_START_STANDBY_DB =3D Y
There are two modes for emailing on the primary server and they are cont= rolled with the SUCCESSMAIL parameter which can take one of two possible va= lues, Y for yes or N for no.
SUCCESSMAIL=3DY|N
There are two modes for emailing on the standby server and they are= controlled with the SUCCESSMAIL_DR parameter which can take one of two pos= sible values, Y for yes or N for no.
SUCCESSMAIL_DR=3DY|N
The email addresses are specified by the ADMINS and SUCCESS_MAILTO param= eters in the DDC file. Multiple email addresses can be separated by a comma= .
All email configurations are specified in the Dbvisit Standby Database C= onfiguration (DDC) file located in DBVISIT_BASE/standby/conf directory.
If SUCCESS_MAILTO is not set, all emails notifications that Dbvisit Standby=
sends go to ADMINS.
If SUCCESS_MAILTO is set to a valid email address and SUCCESSMAIL is set to=
Y then:
- And the following messages go to SUCCESS_MAILTO:
If SUCCESS_MAILTO is set to a valid email address but SUCCESSMAIL is set= to N then the following type of messages will not be sent at all:
