Graceful Switchover
The graceful switchover is a zero data loss process for role reversal between the primary and standby clusters. At the end of this process, the standby and primary clusters change roles and the standby cluster becomes the new primary and the primary cluster becomes the new standby.
WAL Archiving
The process is simple and straightforward with Dbvisit.
( 1 ) The configuration name and “In Sync” means that the standby cluster databases are in sync with the primary cluster databases.
( 2 ) The method used to sync the standby with primary. “ARCHIVING” mean it uses WAL Archive method for syncing
( 3 ) The option for the switchover. Click this option to start the switchover process.
( 1 ) A precheck is performed on the configuration to ensure that the configuration is ready for switchover.
( 2 ) Custom script option can be used to run user scripts on primary and standby servers for any server or cluster level updates. The script is executed only after successful completion of the Graceful switchover. database scripts cannot be run on the new standby as the status of the database would be in read-only.
( 3 ) Click start to start the graceful switchover process.
( 1 ) The configuration name
( 2 ) The action performed by which user along with start and finish times for the switchover
(3 ) The summary of the process that happens during the switchover.
After the process is completed, the roles are reversed, and centlin72.oraclekiwi.co.nz becomes the primary and centlin71.oraclekiwi.co.nz becomes the standby server.
WAL Shipping
The first step of the graceful switchover is same across all three methods.
( 1 ) The current time lag between standby and primary clusters
