User Management

The Dbvisit Standby MultiPlatform central console can have multiple users with different roles and responsibilities assigned to them. There are three different roles that an user can be assigned to.

  1. Admin : An user assigned to this role can perform all the actions on the control center. Care must be taken to provide this role to users.

  2. Operator : An user assigned to this role can perform actions pertaining to the configurations like graceful switchover, synchronise standby, activation. This user cannot perform actions like removing a configuration, adding new configuration. This user also cannot perform actions of editing the SQL Server instances or create new users.

  3. Monitor : An user assigned to this role can only monitor the configuration and check the current settings of the configuration. This user can run log gap report (Oracle) and also check the current database status but not stop/start them.

Change the password of the Admin user after logging in for the first time. This is also prompted and a warning is provided when you login for the first time.

User Creation and Role Assignment:

Creating a user is a simple process and can be done from the control center. Click on USERS ( 1 ) from the left pane and then Click on Add user ( 2 ) to add new user.

( 1 ) Preferred Username (Must have atleast 3 characters No special characters)

( 2 ) User Role: This can be Admin, Monitor or Operator. Providing Admin role to more users are not recommended.

( 3 ) Email : This is optional as this is just to track the user created. No email will be sent to user upon creation.

( 4 ) Password: Provide initial password but request user to reset the password after logging for the first time. The control center does not prompt for password change for the user.

( 5 ) Save to create the user.

Example:

The below screenshot shows the users available on the control center along with Roles assigned to the individual users. The admin user and the user with admin role has all the privileges to delete or reset the password for the individual users.

Operator Role :

The operator can perform all actions for the configurations. The current user logged in operator.

The user can perform all actions other than Remove configuration. The user also cannot add new configuration or edit existing SQL Server instance.

Monitor Role

As the name suggests the users with monitor role can only monitor the configuration and cannot change anything. They can check the log gap report (Oracle). Check the current settings of the settings like Automate standby update or Standby update delay but cannot change anything. They cannot add new configuration or edit the SQL Server Instance configurations.
